Nine-time Grand Prix motorcycle racing champion Valentino Rossi has arrived at the Mandalika International Circuit in Lombok, Indonesia, to oversee preparations for the VR46 Riders Academy. The visit marks RossiS first time at the circuit, which opened in 2021 and has quickly become a prominent fixture on the MotoGP calendar. Despite a low public profile upon arrival, Rossi is scheduled to lead practice sessions with his team through January 30, 2026, ahead of pre-season testing in Malaysia.

Valentino Rossi has finally arrived at the Mandalika Circuit in Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), after years of anticipation. The legendary rider, known as “The Doctor,” is expected to lead practice sessions for his team and the VR46 Riders Academy.

Rossi’s arrival in Indonesia was remarkably low-key, receiving little public attention. Even the official VR46 Racing Team social media accounts remained silent on the nine-time world champion’s visit.

However, the news of Rossi’s presence was shared by the Instagram account @themandalikagp. The Italian racing icon was spotted exiting the paddock to take a firsthand look at the Mandalika Circuit, sporting all-black attire and a ‘VR46’ cap.

“VR46 Riders Academy practice preparations at the Mandalika Circuit. Here’s a look at the paddock on practice day with the VR46 Racing Team and VR46 Racing Academy as they prepare for on-track sessions. Can you guess who the special figure is in the paddock?” the @themandalikagp Instagram account posted on Tuesday, January 27th.

VR46 Racing Team riders Fabio Di Giannantonio and Franco Morbidelli arrived in Indonesia three days prior, already embarking on a tour of local landmarks, including a Pertamina gas station, schools, and nearby beaches.

Rossi and his team are scheduled to hold practice sessions at the Mandalika Circuit for four days, concluding on January 30, 2026. Following the Indonesian leg, they will head to Sepang, Malaysia, to begin pre-season testing next week.

Rossi’s visit to Mandalika has been highly anticipated, marking his first time at the coastal circuit. He was unable to attend last year due to commitments in automobile racing.

Despite his previous absence, Rossi has repeatedly expressed his desire to experience the Mandalika Circuit firsthand, drawn by reports of its stunning scenery and challenging layout.

“The circuit is good, all the riders like the Mandalika Circuit. The layout of the circuit is very good with beautiful scenery near the sea, so I think this will be a very good grand prix where everyone will enjoy watching it,” Rossi stated in a video posted by the inJourney Instagram account late last year.
