Valor Mortis, a highly anticipated Polish action game, is generating significant buzz alongside other promising titles like Wiedźmin 4 and The Blood of Dawnwalker. Interest in the upcoming soulslike title is evident from the extensive participation in its initial testing phases.
Krakow-based studio One More Level, the developer behind the dark, first-person perspective action game, recently released a new trailer for Valor Mortis at the OTK Games Expo, further fueling anticipation for its release. The trailer, titled “The Crimson Plague,” offers a glimpse of a new in-game location and a challenging encounter with the formidable Sergeant Gaspard “Cannonhand” Dubois.
The footage showcases the protagonist navigating the narrow streets of a settlement at night, battling aggressively hostile inhabitants. These enemies utilize everyday objects – pitchforks and torches – in their attacks, forcing players to react quickly and time their defenses effectively. The game’s combat system appears to demand precision and strategic thinking, hallmarks of the soulslike genre.
Valor Mortis presents a particularly twisted world, populated by the decaying remnants of Napoleon’s army. The game’s environments are unsettling, and characters like Gaspard Dubois have been transformed into terrifying, biomechanical hybrids. This grim aesthetic underscores the game’s dark fantasy setting and promises a challenging, immersive experience.
Developers also previewed a new type of elite enemy, known as the Unyielding. These opponents are described as “exceptionally dangerous warriors” and represent a significant threat to players.
[The Unyielding] are elite soldiers harnessing the power of neftoglobin, making them more dangerous than anything players have faced so far. […] Armed with powerful two-handed swords, they fight with incredible strength and speed, and combined with their relentless aggression, this creates an exceptionally dangerous mix – said Radosław Ratusznik, the game’s director.
Valor Mortis is scheduled for release in 2026 on PS5, XSX/S, and PC. The game’s development highlights the growing strength of the Polish game development industry and its increasing focus on challenging, narrative-driven experiences.
