Sergio Vial and José Domingo Cornejo secured a crucial victory at the Club Lo Prado’s one-day rodeo on Saturday, keeping their hopes alive for the final qualifying spot in the 2025-2026 season.

Sergio Vial and José Domingo Cornejo extended their chances of qualifying for the final stage of the 2025-2026 season after winning the Rodeo Provincial de Un Día hosted by the Club Lo Prado of the Asociación Santiago Poniente.

Riding Nieto Regalón and Riachuelo, the duo from Criadero Las Callanas tallied 24 points, putting them within striking distance of the seven points needed to advance to the Melipilla North Qualifier. This win is particularly important as the season nears its conclusion and qualifying spots become increasingly competitive.

Cornejo, who recently joined the Criadero Las Callanas, shared his excitement about the win with Caballoyrodeo.cl: “I’m happy, we were looking for points and thankfully it happened. We have one date left now and we’re going to try to get the horses qualified, hopefully it works out. We ended up with nine points, so we’re a little short. Hopefully it happens at this last date.”

He also praised the quality of the rodeo itself, stating: “It was incredibly good. Large, heavy bulls, but a very good rodeo.”

The son of Gustavo Cornejo spoke about his recent move to the Criadero Las Callanas: “I moved to Criadero Las Callanas, where my uncle José Tomás Meza is. So I want to thank don Gonzalo Vial for giving me the opportunity. I’m very happy to be here.”

“I arrived here recently and now we’ve won a championship, so I’m very happy. We had gone to compete in the south before, it didn’t go so well, we came back here and thankfully we were able to win,” he added.

Gonzalo Vial Concha and Luis Eduardo Cortés finished second, scoring 23 points with Los Gachos Encapuchado and Las Callanas Viajante.

Criadero Las Callanas, with Sergio Vial and José Tomás Meza riding Refresco and Ruiseñor, took third place with 15 points.

Other competitors included José Manuel Carril and Pedro Contreras (14 points), Tomás Cruz and Guillermo Alesandrini (14 points), Emilio Mella and Marcos Núñez (12 points), Criadero Las Callanas with Gonzalo Vial and Luis Eduardo Cortés (12 points) and Criadero Las Callanas with José Domingo Cornejo and Sergio Vial (6 points).

Los Gallos Jamás Rezonga, ridden by Samuel Urriola, earned the Sello de Raza.
