Grünwidl was welcomed by IGGÖ President Ümit Vural, who afterward described the first meeting as having a “extremely brotherly atmosphere.” Vural expressed his gratitude for the visit, viewing it as a sign of appreciation and recognition. He stated his anticipation for continued collaboration with the new archbishop, noting that he also attended Grünwidl’s episcopal ordination on January 24 at St. Stephen’s Cathedral.
Archbishop Grünwidl emphasized the importance of the visit to the IGGÖ, stating that he wanted to demonstrate his willingness “to gladly cooperate on a togetherness, where it is about finding a European, an Austrian path for the Muslim religious community.” According to the Archdiocese of Vienna, Grünwidl affirmed his commitment to furthering the shared path of integration and participation among different religious communities, stating, “I am happy to proceed along with this and contribute my part.”
Also in attendance at the meeting were Edina Husovic, head of the IGGÖ’s Presidential Office, Stefan Lorger-Rauwolf, head of the “Church in Dialogue” department within the Vienna Archdiocese’s Pastoral Office and Nina Sevelda-Platzl, Grünwidl’s chief of staff.
