Vienna’s Galerie Frei.Haus will transform into a space dedicated to strength, identity, and artistic expression from March 8th to 14th. Artist Viveka Biondic will present her exhibition, “The Dress,” a project exploring themes of femininity, societal roles, and self-determination.
At the heart of the exhibition is the message: “It’s not the dress that makes the woman. It’s the woman that makes the dress.” Biondic’s work—ranging from large-scale acrylic paintings on canvas to pieces on aluminum and brass, and photographic elements—creates the illusion of dresses without actually depicting fabric. The project isn’t focused on fashion, but rather on presence, posture, and inner strength. This exploration of identity through visual art arrives as discussions around representation and female empowerment continue to gain momentum in the cultural landscape.
The project is supported by sowhat – a competence center for people with eating disorders – and created in collaboration with Ars Flagranti – Kunst & Stahl, uniting artistic vision with skilled metalwork.
A festive opening reception will take place on March 8th at 7:30 PM, featuring live music. A diverse program of events will accompany the exhibition:
March 10th: Improvisation Theater
March 11th: Live Life Drawing
March 12th: “Tea for Free”
March 13th: Closing event “Disco Cabine”
This interdisciplinary program aims to make the gallery not only an exhibition space but also a meeting point for art, performance, and exchange.
