Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka arrived in Yahukimo, Highland Papua, on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, as part of a regional visit focused on advancing government programs and strengthening security coordination in remote areas. His visit included a stop at a Christian school where he reviewed the rollout of the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program, a key initiative under President Prabowo Subianto’s administration. Gibran also inspected facilities at Dekai Regional General Hospital and met with families of military personnel stationed in the district. Speaking at a military district command base in Dekai, Gibran urged the Indonesian military and police to enhance coordination to maintain stability in Yahukimo, emphasizing that security is essential for delivering priority government programs. He highlighted additional initiatives such as Free Health Screening (CKG), the Red and White Village Cooperatives program and subsidized housing, noting that these could be expanded once security conditions improve. Gibran spent approximately three hours in Yahukimo during his visit, which followed President Prabowo’s directive to prioritize security and stability as foundations for accelerating development in remote and vulnerable regions. The area remains prone to security risks linked to armed separatist groups, which have periodically disrupted public services and development efforts. His trip to Yahukimo was part of a broader itinerary from April 20–22 that included stops in Nabire, Timika, Sorong, and Raja Ampat, where he reviewed infrastructure and program implementation across Papua.
