This marks the third time the 24-year-old has sustained this type of injury throughout his career. Adding to the challenge, Czyz’s contract with Widzew was set to expire at the end of June. Despite the circumstances, the club has activated an option to extend his deal through June 2027.

– Szymon is one of us, an important part of the team. It was obvious to us that we would make this decision in this situation. There are many moments ahead, including difficult ones, because that’s what life is like. I believe that in the tougher times, we will all be together. This is the only way we can collectively strive for our goal. We all wish Szymon a speedy recovery and want him to be able to focus on that fully. We will surround him with care, and I ask the fans to also support Szymon in his fight to return to the field – said Dariusz Adamczuk, Widzew’s sports director, on the club’s official website.

Czyz joined Widzew in February 2025 and has become a key contributor in midfield. He made 18 appearances in the Ekstraklasa this season, starting in 10 of those matches.

Widzew currently sits 15th in the Ekstraklasa table as they prepare to begin the spring round on Saturday with a match against Jagiellonia Białystok. The team will be looking to climb the standings and avoid relegation as the season progresses.
