WTT Singapore Grand Smash: National Table Tennis Team Advances Eight Players to Quarterfinals

The quarterfinal matchups are set at the 2026 WTT Singapore Grand Smash, with eight Chinese national team players securing their spots in the single-elimination bracket after competition on February 27th. The tournament is a key event on the international table tennis calendar, showcasing top talent from around the globe.

In a stunning upset, Chen Yuanyuan defeated world champion Hugo Calderano of Brazil 3-1, earning a surprising place among the final eight. This victory marks the third men’s singles player from China to reach the quarterfinals.

Chen Yuanyuan, currently ranked 30th in the world, overcame a formidable opponent in Calderano, who has previously defeated top Chinese players like Fan Zhendong, Wang Chuqin, Lin Shidong, Liang Jingkun, and Lin Gaoyuan. The match saw Chen take the first game 6-11, before battling back to win the next three 11-9, 12-10, and 11-6.

Also advancing in the men’s singles were Wang Chuqin and Lin Shidong, who secured their places on February 26th. Chen Yuanyuan will now face Sweden’s Mattias Falck in the quarterfinal round.

On the women’s side, Sun Yingsha defeated Shi Xunyao 3-1 and will face Japan’s Hinata Hayada in the quarterfinals. Chen Yiyi achieved a clean sweep, defeating Japan’s Honoka Hashimoto 3-0 and will now face teammate Chen Xingtong in an all-Chinese quarterfinal showdown.

Adding to the Chinese contingent in the quarterfinals are Wang Manyu, Wang Yidi, and Chen Xingtong, who all won their matches on February 26th.

In doubles action, the Chinese duo of Lin Shidong and Huang Youzhen defeated a French pair 3-0 and will compete in the final against another French team, the Lebreun brothers.

The quarterfinals will take place on February 28th, alongside the women’s doubles final and the men’s doubles final. The schedule includes matches featuring several of China’s top players, promising an exciting day of competition. Full schedule details are available here.
