Xiaomi has ceased production of its SU7 electric vehicle, shifting its resources toward a modern model slated for release in April 2026.
The decision to halt SU7 production is part of a broader strategy by Xiaomi to strengthen its lineup of next-generation electric vehicles, which the company claims will feature significant updates in both design and performance.
According to reports, this move represents a strategic transition for the company as it solidifies its portfolio of environmentally friendly vehicles. Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun announced that the final SU7 unit, finished in olive green, was delivered to its owner in Xi’an, marking the end of production for the model that launched in April 2024.
Throughout its production run, approximately 381,000 Xiaomi SU7 electric vehicles were distributed. Sales totaled 130,000 units in the first year and increased to 258,000 units in 2025. This performance made the SU7 the best-selling premium EV sedan in China, even surpassing Tesla Model 3 sales thanks to its integrated smart ecosystem.
Currently, Xiaomi’s development efforts are fully focused on a new generation of electric vehicles promising substantial changes to both exterior and interior design, with a more premium feel. The new model is also expected to feature a more powerful and efficient powertrain to meet the growing demand for low-emission mobility options.
While demonstration units have been on display at select Xiaomi retail locations in China since February 13, 2026, the official launch of the new Xiaomi electric vehicle remains scheduled for April 2026, debunking earlier social media speculation of a March release.
The cessation of SU7 production and preparation for the new model underscores Xiaomi’s ambitions in the global automotive market. By leveraging technological innovation and software integration, the next generation of Xiaomi electric vehicles is projected to further strengthen the company’s position in the technology-driven electric vehicle market.
