Health officials in Yaracuy state have established 223 vaccination posts throughout the region to bolster immunization efforts against yellow fever. The move comes as a preventative measure, particularly given the proximity of neighboring states with reported cases.
Regional epidemiologist, Carmen Yánez, confirmed the availability of these vaccination sites, which are located in outpatient clinics, Comprehensive Diagnostic Centers (CDI), and popular clinics. This widespread distribution aims to make the vaccine readily accessible to residents across all 14 municipalities.
Vaccination against yellow fever is routinely administered to all children up to one year old as part of their standard immunization schedule, which also includes the viral SRP trivalent vaccine. Older children, young adults, and adults up to 59 years of age who do not have a documented record of yellow fever immunization are eligible to receive the vaccine. Ensuring broad immunity is crucial for preventing outbreaks and protecting the population.
So far this year, more than 14,000 doses of the yellow fever vaccine have been administered to both children and adults in Yaracuy state. Officials emphasize the importance of vaccination, especially considering the proximity of states like Lara, Portuguesa, Barinas, and Aragua – areas prioritized due to their higher risk – as well as countries experiencing active outbreaks. This proactive approach is intended to provide a protective barrier against potential transmission.
