Los Angeles Lakers star Luka Dončić has retained the services of Laura Wasser, an attorney widely known for handling high-profile divorce cases, according to court records in Los Angeles County.
Wasser has earned the nickname “Divorce Queen” due to her extensive experience in marital dissolution and representation of numerous celebrities in complex legal battles. Her past clients include Kim Kardashian, Britney Spears, Angelina Jolie, Jennifer Garner, and, most recently, Post Malone.
Earlier this month, Wasser assisted Dončić in filing a motion to dismiss a child support and attorney fees claim brought by his former partner, Anamaria Goltes, in California. Wasser argued that neither Dončić nor Goltes, nor their two young daughters, are legal residents of California, and that Goltes, the former partner of the Slovenian basketball player, allegedly sought to file the claim in California to take advantage of “the generous child support awards for which this state is known.”
“At the same time, Anamaria restricted Luka’s ability to see the children, which led him to file a family law claim in Slovenia in February 2026. Both child custody and support issues are being addressed in Slovenia. Luka has consistently paid all child expenses and has also provided additional financial support to Anamaria in Slovenia,” the attorney argued.
A judge is scheduled to rule on the motion at a hearing in May.
Reports indicate Dončić has not seen either of his children since December, when he traveled to Slovenia for the birth of his youngest daughter.
Dončić publicly announced the end of their relationship shortly after news of Goltes’ support claim surfaced.
The legal proceedings highlight the complexities that can arise in international custody and support disputes, particularly involving high-profile individuals. These cases often involve navigating differing legal systems and establishing parental rights across borders.
Dončić’s legal team is currently focused on establishing jurisdiction in Slovenia, where both child custody and financial support matters are being addressed. The upcoming May hearing in California will determine whether Goltes’ claim will proceed in that state, or if the case will remain solely within the Slovenian legal system.
According to court filings, Dončić has consistently met his financial obligations to his children and their mother, and the current dispute centers on the location where these matters will be legally resolved. The outcome of these proceedings could significantly impact Dončić’s ability to maintain a relationship with his children, as well as the financial arrangements for their care.
The case is expected to draw significant media attention, given Dončić’s status as a prominent athlete and the high-profile nature of the legal representation involved. The resolution of this dispute will likely set a precedent for similar international family law cases in the future.
