Zelenskyy: Sustained Pressure Needed to Halt Russian Aggression
Recent attacks by Russia are undermining diplomatic efforts to end the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated Wednesday. He emphasized that only increased pressure on Moscow, coupled with robust security guarantees for Ukraine, offers a viable path toward ending the violence. “Until the pressure on the aggressor is sufficient and security for us, for Ukraine, is guaranteed, everything else will not operate,” Zelenskyy wrote on X.
According to Zelenskyy, the Russian military shows no signs of slowing down and is actively preparing for continued combat. He stressed the continued need for international support and strengthening of Ukraine’s defenses. “Air defense for our state, support packages for our stability, and accountability for Russia’s actions are prerequisites for defending life. Security must exist for there to be peace.”
On Tuesday, a Russian drone strike on a private home in Kharkiv killed three young children and their father, Zelenskyy reported. The children’s mother was hospitalized with injuries and is currently pregnant. A drone attack targeted a hospital in Zaporizhzhia Wednesday morning. Overnight, six people, including children, were injured in a drone attack in the Sumy region, resulting in one fatality. A railway depot in Konotop was also struck at dawn, damaging a train. Attacks were also reported in the Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhia, and Poltava regions.
Zelenskyy stated that a total of 129 attack drones were launched at Ukraine since Tuesday evening, many of which were identified as Shahid models. The escalating attacks underscore the continued intensity of the conflict and the challenges facing Ukraine as it seeks to defend its territory and population. The development underscores growing regional tensions and the urgent need for a resolution to the conflict.
