ZA/UM, the development studio behind the critically acclaimed Disco Elysium, has announced a free demo for its upcoming spy-themed game, Zero Parades: For Dead Spies, will be available during Steam Next Fest. This offers players an early look at a title poised to explore narrative complexity in a fresh genre.
The demo launches on February 23 and runs through March 16, providing a “curated” experience of the opening hours of Zero Parades. While not all content from this section of the full game will be included, players will have access to two complete missions, a variety of side activities, and the freedom to explore the city-state of Portofiro.
A brief glimpse of what awaits can be seen in the gameplay video below, showcasing the first few minutes of Zero Parades.
The demo also allows players to choose from three distinct character archetypes, each defining the skills and stats of the protagonist, Hershel Wilk. ZA/UM encourages players to replay the demo with each archetype to observe how a character’s physical, spiritual, or analytical build impacts choices and opportunities.
IGN recently conducted an interview with several ZA/UM developers to learn more about Zero Parades, which tells the story of a spy called out of retirement for one last mission. The central theme of the game is failure, and ZA/UM has designed the dialogue system around this concept. “Every door that closes is an open window,” the studio stated in a press release.
Zero Parades features a design aesthetic reminiscent of ZA/UM’s previous title, Disco Elysium, and is being developed by a team comprised of both veteran and new staff. The full game is scheduled for release in 2026, initially on PC via Steam, GOG, and the Epic Games Store, followed by a later release on PlayStation 5.
