Taiwan Shinei suffered their sixth consecutive loss in the Winter League late game, falling 0-4 to the Japanese Professional Baseball League team. The game was dominated by a stellar seven-inning performance from Japanese pitcher Miayaguo Lingkong.

Lingkong, who plays for the Orix Buffaloes, was a third-round pick in the 2023 developmental draft. He previously pitched six scoreless innings against Taiwan Marine in his last outing, and continued his dominance tonight. He struck out nine batters, walked three, and allowed just four hits over seven innings, securing the win and maintaining a 13-inning scoreless streak.

“This was my first time facing Taiwanese hitters,” Lingkong admitted, “so my strategy was to test them out in the first inning and see what pitches they would swing at.”

Lingkong faced a jam in the first inning when Taiwan Shinei’s leadoff hitter, Renwei Zhang, reached second base. However, a successful pickoff throw by catcher Taijiro Yano to second base helped Lingkong escape the inning unscathed. “I didn’t have good control in the first inning,” Lingkong said, “so I’m very grateful to my catcher.”

Lingkong was drafted by the Orix Buffaloes in 2023 and is part of the same draft class as Mutsuo Chen. He revealed that the two players often chat, as they are considered teammates. Lingkong also noted, “Mutsuo’s Japanese is pretty good.”
