Leaders from the United Kingdom, France, and Germany are set to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in London on Monday to discuss ongoing U.S. efforts to find a resolution to the war in Ukraine. The meeting comes as international diplomatic efforts continue to navigate the complex conflict.
Poland’s Minister of Digital Affairs, Krzysztof Gawkowski, addressed questions from reporters in Bydgoszcz regarding the upcoming summit and Poland’s absence from the talks.
“Poland is a vital partner to Ukraine, and Ukraine’s security is a key element in building security for Poland and for Europe,” Gawkowski stated. “Different meetings and summits are taking place in different locations. Poland participates in many formats, all of which will influence the future of security in Ukraine. The most important thing is that more and more countries are taking responsibility for Ukraine’s future.”

Gawkowski emphasized that “Ukraine’s security must be built through many different channels of discussion.” He added, “The more formats, the more conversations, the better.” The Deputy Prime Minister believes that Ukraine’s future freedom and independence are paramount.
Gawkowski on the New U.S. Security Strategy
The Minister was also questioned about the recently released U.S. National Security Strategy. Gawkowski affirmed that the United States has historically been a stabilizer of global security and expressed confidence that this would remain the case.
“The United States is a key partner to Poland and the European Union,” he said. “It is with NATO and the United States that we are building the relationships that will provide us with a secure shield, a secure umbrella, and a guarantee that Poland will never be left alone if a conflict arises.”
Gawkowski stressed that both Poland and the United States, as NATO members, are working together to build European security.
“The European Union, NATO, and the United States have been and remain pillars of Polish security. I am convinced that this will not change. U.S. strategies have evolved, but what matters most is the presence of American troops in Poland and the development of good relations with the U.S. government. We will cooperate with the United States, seeking partners wherever we find them, but Americans must also remember that an alliance with Europe requires mutual respect, not just from one side,” Gawkowski argued.
The new U.S. National Security Strategy was published on Friday, outlining the priorities of U.S. foreign and security policy. It emphasized “restoring conditions of stability in Europe and strategic stability (in relations) with Russia,” placing the primary responsibility for defense on European nations, preventing the “dominance of any adversarial power,” “improving” the continent’s current political course, and “ending the perception of NATO as a constantly expanding alliance.”
