Competition kicks off Friday in Park City, Utah, with the Nations Cup, a qualifying event for the World Cup stage. Representing Latvia in the Nations Cup will be Elīna Ieva Bota, Zane Kaluma, and Margita Sirsniņa.
Saturday will feature the second runs for both the women’s and men’s singles events, followed by the team relay. This weekend’s events are crucial as athletes battle for positioning in the overall standings.
The season’s opening stage was originally scheduled for Igls, Austria, but renovations to the track forced a relocation to Winterberg, Germany.
This year’s World Cup schedule includes nine stops. Following Park City and Lake Placid in the United States, the tour is slated to visit Sigulda, Latvia, around the turn of the new year.
Olympic qualification concludes after the fifth stage in Winterberg in early January. The European Championship medals will be awarded at the second stage in Germany, in Oberhof. Athletes will then turn their attention to the Olympic Games in Milan-Cortina d’Ampezzo in early February.
