President Donald Trump signed the 2026 defense budget into law on Thursday, authorizing $901 billion in spending and including provisions for continued aid to Ukraine.

Details: Trump signed the bill, officially known as S. 1071, the “National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2026,” and it went into effect immediately on December 18.

The legislation authorizes funding for the Department of Defense, military construction, and national security programs coordinated by the Department of Energy and the State Department.

The act also addresses improvements to military personnel benefits and establishes new authorities for implementing changes in national and international security, trade, and the judicial system.

The signed legislation allocates $901 billion for annual military expenditures.

Regarding Ukraine, the bill includes $800 million – $400 million each for fiscal years 2026 and 2027 – through the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative, which facilitates the procurement of U.S.-made weaponry for the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
