KPK Names Hulu Sungai Utara Prosecutor, Officials as Extortion Suspects

Jakarta – Indonesia’s anti-corruption agency, the KPK, has embroiled three prosecutors from North Hulu Sungai district in an alleged extortion case, signaling a renewed focus on rooting out misconduct within the nation’s legal system. The suspects – a district head prosecutor and two deputies – were apprehended following a sting operation in south Kalimantan province, according too officials. This case raises further questions about ongoing efforts to combat corruption, a persistent challenge for Indonesia’s law enforcement agencies [[2]].

Indonesia’s anti-corruption agency has named the head prosecutor for North Hulu Sungai district, along with two of his deputies, as suspects in an alleged extortion scheme targeting local government offices in South Kalimantan province. The case underscores growing concerns about corruption within the Indonesian justice system.

“After finding sufficient evidence, the KPK has named three suspects: Mr. APN, the Head of the District Prosecutor’s Office of North Hulu Sungai, from August 2025 to the present,” said Asep Guntur Rahayu, Acting Deputy for Prosecution and Execution at the KPK, during a press conference at the KPK’s Red and White Building on Saturday, December 20, 2025.

“Secondly, ASB, the Head of the Intelligence Section of the North Hulu Sungai District Prosecutor’s Office, and Mr. TAR, the Head of the Civil and State Administration Section of the North Hulu Sungai District Prosecutor’s Office,” he added.

The KPK has taken the suspects into custody, where they will be held for the next 20 days.

“The KPK will detain the suspects for the first two days, from December 19, 2025, to January 8, 2026,” Rahayu stated.

He also revealed the charges against the three men, specifying that they are accused of extortion.

“For their actions, the suspects are charged with violating Article 12 letter e, Article 12 letter f, Law Number 31 of 1999 as amended by Law 20 of 2002, in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph 1 to 1 of the Criminal Code, in conjunction with Article 64 of the Criminal Code,” he said.

The KPK initially detained the head prosecutor for North Hulu Sungai district during a sting operation in South Kalimantan, citing suspicions of extortion.
