Bulgarian champions Ludogorets are reportedly in the market for a new striker as they eye Icelandic forward Stefan Sigurdarson. The club is seeking to bolster its attacking options ahead of a crucial phase of the season, including potential European competition, after a semi-final exit from the UEFA Europa Conference League. Manager Per-Mathias Høgmo has identified Sigurdarson, currently playing for Sandefjord,as a key target, despite interest from Polish clubs. The potential acquisition comes as Matheus Machado’s loan deal is set to expire without a permanent move.

Bulgarian side Ludogorets are targeting Icelandic striker Stefan Sigurdarson, according to reports. The 24-year-old forward, who stands at 6’4”, currently plays for Norwegian Eliteserien club Sandefjord. Sigurdarson’s contract with the team that finished fifth in the league runs through December 31, 2027.

Journalist Stan de Val first reported Ludogorets’ interest in the attacker. He indicated that the Bulgarian club will face stiff competition for Sigurdarson’s signature, particularly from Polish side Raków Częstochowa, as well as several other clubs from the Polish Ekstraklasa. Ludogorets manager Per-Mathias Høgmo has personally requested the club pursue the forward, who enjoyed a strong season in Norway.

The Icelander featured in 28 matches across all competitions last season, scoring 15 goals and providing one assist. Sigurdarson has represented Luxembourg at the under-17 level, where he spent much of his youth, and has also been capped by Iceland’s youth teams, though he is yet to appear for the senior national team. His career has largely unfolded in his homeland, with a previous stint at second-division side Patro Eisden before joining Sandefjord.

Currently, Høgmo has three forwards at his disposal: Kwadwo Dua, Erik Bile, and Matheus Machado. Swiss international Dua has quickly made an impact since returning from a long-term injury, scoring five goals in five appearances across all competitions. The other two, however, have struggled to impress. Machado is on loan from Saudi Arabian side Al-Fateh until the end of the season, and it’s understood the club will not be exercising their option to buy.
