Indonesian authorities have completed their investigation into allegations that Riau Governor Abdul Wahid solicited bribes from subordinates in the Public Works Department. The governor will soon face trial, officials confirmed Monday.

“Today, March 2nd, the investigation into alleged corruption related to extortion within the Riau Provincial Government has been declared complete and transferred to the prosecution stage,” said KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo to reporters.

Prasetyo explained that investigators have handed over evidence and the three suspects to the team of public prosecutors, who are finalizing the indictment.

“The prosecutors will now draft the indictment within the next 14 working days, after which the case file will be transferred to the Corruption Court for trial,” he added.

The case originated with a sting operation in early November 2025 that led to the arrest of Governor Abdul Wahid. The allegations center around demands for payments from officials within the Riau Province’s Public Works Department.

The KPK has named three suspects in connection with the alleged extortion scheme within the Riau Provincial Government. They are:

1. Riau Governor, Abdul Wahid
2. Head of the Riau Public Works Department, Muhammad Arief Setiawan
3. Gubernatorial Advisor, Dani M Nursalam

Authorities allege that Abdul Wahid threatened subordinates if they did not pay him a fee, known locally as “jatah preman,” amounting to Rp 7 billion. At least three payments were allegedly made in June, August and November 2025.
