Turin’s historic daily newspaper, La Stampa, is set to change ownership, with the Gedi Group and the Sae Group signing a preliminary agreement for the sale. The move marks a significant shift for one of Italy’s leading news publications and underscores the evolving landscape of the Italian media industry.

The agreement, finalized on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, includes not only the newspaper itself but as well its affiliated publications, digital assets, printing center, local advertising sales network, and editorial support staff, according to a joint statement. The acquisition will be carried out through a newly established entity controlled by the Sae Group, with plans for investment from stakeholders in the Northwest region of Italy.

“The experience gained by the Sae Group, which operates in the information and communication services sectors nationally, constitutes a solid basis for the realization of a sustainable and long-term editorial project,” the statement read. “The project aims to ensure continuity in the historical positioning of the publication, preserving its editorial independence and its deep connection with its territory.”

The deal encompasses a broad scope of operations beyond the daily publication. As detailed in a report by Il Sole 24 ORE, the transfer includes digital operations and the central printing facility.

Completion of the transaction is expected before the end of the first half of 2026 and is subject to the completion of standard union and bureaucratic procedures, as reported by Sky TG24. ANSA also reported on the preliminary agreement.

The sale of La Stampa follows a similar announcement regarding the potential sale of Repubblica to Antenna, signaling further consolidation within the Italian newspaper market, as noted by Il Sole 24 ORE.

The Piedmont region is also following the sale closely, according to ANSA.
