A man accused of brutally murdering his father and assaulting his mother appeared in court Wednesday and disrupted proceedings with an outburst, according to reports from Kaunas, Lithuania.

Donatas ÄŒerneckas, 35, allegedly killed his 58-year-ancient father and attacked his mother. During the hearing at Kaunas Regional Court, ÄŒerneckas reportedly expressed his frustration through gestures, questioning why he was being held accountable instead of his mother. He likewise indicated his opposition to his sister being recognized as a victim in the case, Lrytas reported.

The unusual behavior reportedly stunned even seasoned legal professionals present in the courtroom. The case, which involves a charge of particularly cruel murder, has drawn significant attention in Lithuania.

ÄŒerneckas is deaf, and the initial court date in February was postponed due to the unavailability of sign language interpreters, according to Lrytas. A previous hearing scheduled for January 15 was also delayed due to illness within the judging panel.

The case is currently ongoing, and authorities are preparing to address the issue of Černeckas’s continued detention. 15min.lt reports that Kaunas Regional Court plans to commence examining the case.

The details of the alleged crime and the circumstances surrounding it are still under investigation. The incident highlights the complexities of navigating the legal system with defendants who have disabilities.
