Thousands of supporters gathered in Santiago’s Plaza de la Constitución on Saturday, March 7, 2026, to bid farewell to President Gabriel Boric as his term nears its end. The rally, organized by the citizen collective “Unidos por Boric,” comes just days before José Antonio Kast is sworn in as the next president of Chile.

The gathering took place in front of La Moneda Palace, where Boric’s supporters displayed flags, banners, and chanted their appreciation for his leadership during his four years in office.

Addressing the crowd, President Boric highlighted the resilience of the Chilean people throughout his administration. “I have traveled throughout all of Chile and in all those places I have found the Chilean people who refuse to be defeated by fires or earthquakes, those who rise up against threats from wherever they come or pessimistic interests,” he stated.

Boric also reflected on his time in office, expressing humility and a sense of accomplishment. “I am a young president and I assumed the mandate that you gave me four years ago with humility. I promise you from the bottom of my heart that I have given my best to be up to this responsibility and I can say with tranquility and conviction that I leave with my head held high and with clean hands,” he said.

The president emphasized the collaborative nature of his government, acknowledging the dedication of his team. “I have not been alone because politics is a collective exercise and it has been an entire team that has worked tirelessly this period to make Chile great,” Boric added.

The “Unidos por Boric” collective, which has previously organized rallies in support of the outgoing administration, stated that the event aimed to “bid farewell to the president as he deserves and thank him for everything he has done for Chile.”

Members and leaders from the Frente Amplio party, to which Boric belongs, also participated in the farewell event.

The demonstration underscores the strong support Boric maintains among a segment of the Chilean population as the country prepares for a shift in political leadership. The change of command is scheduled to take place in the coming days, marking the end of Boric’s presidency.
