Karolína Muchová battled to a 7-5, 6-2 victory over Anna Bondár in her opening match at the Indian Wells Masters on Thursday, March 7, 2026, overcoming a tough challenge and four set points against her.

Muchová – Bondárová 7:5, 6:2

The match marked Muchová’s first official appearance in three weeks, and some initial rust was evident as she struggled to find her rhythm. The Czech favorite committed numerous errors and fell behind 0-2 after Bondár converted a break point.

However, Muchová quickly responded, though she couldn’t capitalize on a 40-0 lead on her return. She seized another opportunity, converting with a well-placed drop shot. Despite holding chances to break Bondár again in the fifth and eighth games, she couldn’t convert, facing resistance from her opponent.

A marathon tenth game followed, where Muchová faced a total of four set points due to her own errors. Each time, she delivered a quality serve and forced Bondár into an unforced mistake, battling back to level the set at 5-5. She then dominated the following two games, securing the first set.

Muchová continued to make more errors than usual at the start of the second set, but she gained the upper hand with an early break. The Czech player earned a break point in the third game and capitalized on a loose shot from Bondár, taking a set and break lead.

The remainder of the match proved relatively straightforward for Muchová. She secured another break to extend her lead to 4-1 and comfortably closed out the match, which lasted just under two hours.

The win over Bondár confirms Muchová’s status as a favorite and extends her winning streak to seven matches. This streak includes her second career title, and biggest to date, which she claimed in Doha, Qatar in mid-February.

Despite approaching her 30th birthday in August, this marks only Muchová’s third appearance at Indian Wells. She has reached at least the round of 16 in both previous starts and will appear to improve on that result, facing either Antonia Ružičová or Qinwen Zheng in the next round.

Muchová is joined in the third round by fellow Czech player Linda Nosková, ranked 14th in the world. Kateřina Siniaková remains the only other Czech player still in contention at the BNP Paribas Open.
