Apple is reportedly delaying the launch of a fresh smart home display, initially planned for release this fall, due to ongoing development challenges with Siri.
Early reports indicate the device was intended to feature a “MagSafe” system for wall mounting, offering a quick and secure attachment method. This would have extended the magnetic mounting system, currently used for iPhone accessories, to the home environment. MagSafe, introduced with the iPhone 12, provides a convenient way to wirelessly charge and connect accessories.
However, according to Bloomberg, the launch has been pushed back as Apple works to improve Siri’s functionality. The company aims to integrate Siri more seamlessly into its smart home ecosystem and the delay suggests a focus on delivering a polished user experience.
The smart home display was expected to be available alongside other Apple products this fall, but a revised release date has not yet been announced. The delay highlights the challenges of developing advanced voice assistant technology and integrating it into new hardware. Apple’s MagSafe accessories are currently available for iPhone.
Reports also suggest that the launch of a new “Home” accessory, potentially a smart home hub, has also been affected by these ongoing software issues. Letem světem Applem reported that incomplete tasks are slowing down development of both the iPod and iPad.
The development of a magnetic mounting system for the smart home display, described as “MagSafe for the wall,” would have offered a novel approach to device placement and integration within the home. MagSafe technology is expected to continue evolving with future iPhone models, including the iPhone 17.
