Blizzard Launches Overwatch on Nintendo Switch 2 Amid Performance Hurdles and Season 2 Update

Blizzard has officially expanded the accessibility of its free-to-play, team-based action title by bringing Overwatch to the Nintendo Switch 2. However, the transition to the new hardware has not been seamless. according to early reports, the promised 60fps performance is not yet functional on the platform. This move highlights the industry’s ongoing push to bring high-fidelity, competitive shooters to handheld consoles, though technical optimization remains a critical hurdle for mobile parity.

The platform expansion coincides with the launch of Overwatch Season 2 – Summit, part of the “Reign of Talon” narrative arc. As part of this update, Blizzard has unveiled new heroes and returning features designed to evolve the 5v5 battlefield experience.

Central to the new season is the introduction of Sierra, the 51st hero to join the roster. A DPS specialist, Sierra is integrated into the game via the Operation: Grand Mesa defensive event, allowing players to test her full kit in active combat.

Beyond character additions, the “Summit” update introduces significant environmental and mechanical changes. The Antarctica map has been reworked, and a new Lijiang Night Market map has been added, featuring Ramattra in Stadium to facilitate new tactical experimentation. Blizzard has brought back Post Match Accolades to allow squads to celebrate their victories.

The update too emphasizes high-end customization. Players can now acquire the Sumi-ichimonji Genji Mythic weapon and the Mythic Volted Overdrive Soldier: 76 skin. To mark the season, the Shop and Battle Pass have been updated with Spring-themed aesthetics, including Sakura and Spring Fairy looks, as players continue their climb toward the summit.
