IKEA has announced the discontinuation of its best-selling Malm bedroom furniture series, with production set to phase out gradually between 2026 and 2027.
The decision, confirmed by Stine Odland, press officer at IKEA, stems from the company’s ongoing product range development rather than any safety incidents involving the furniture.
According to IKEA, spare parts for Malm products will remain available for a limited time after the phase-out concludes.
The announcement directs customers visiting IKEA’s website for Malm product information to a message stating: “Goodbye to MALM, welcome to STORKLINTA!”
IKEA describes the upcoming STORKLINTA collection as a successor to Malm, noting its design shares similarities while featuring fronts reminiscent of the Voxtorp kitchen series.
Although STORKLINTA products are not yet available for sale in Norway, IKEA confirms that Malm bedroom items—including nightstands, bed frames, and most dressers—will be discontinued first during the transition period.
The phase-out reflects IKEA’s continuous effort to refresh its product offerings while maintaining safety standards, including the continued recommendation to secure Malm furniture to walls using the provided safety brackets to prevent tipping hazards.
