Globo Revives São Paulo’s 1990s Aesthetic in ‘Quem Ama Cuida’ Visuals
Brazilian television network Globo is transporting viewers back in time with the set design for its upcoming telenovela, “Quem Ama Cuida” (Those Who Love, Care). The production is recreating the look and feel of São Paulo in the 1990s, offering a nostalgic backdrop for the unfolding drama.
According to reports, the visual approach aims to capture the essence of the city during that era, utilizing specific color palettes, architectural details, and props to evoke a sense of authenticity. The production team has focused on recreating iconic locations and street scenes from the 90s, immersing audiences in a bygone era of Brazilian urban life.
The latest series brings together veteran actors alongside rising stars, promising a blend of experience and fresh talent. Letícia Colin, who plays a key role in the series, expressed her desire to challenge perceptions of her as a “mocinha chata” – a stereotypical “boring good girl” – in the production. “I want to break away from that label,” Colin stated.
“Quem Ama Cuida” also features appearances by Chaiany Andrade and Gil do Vigor, adding to the show’s diverse cast. Veteran actor Tony Ramos, with a 62-year career and at the age of 77, reportedly experienced a surprising moment on set, stating, “I hadn’t seen this on Globo before.”
The telenovela is slated to be the next installment in Globo’s 9 p.m. Timeslot, a primetime position known for its high viewership. The series is expected to resonate with audiences who remember the 1990s in São Paulo, as well as younger viewers curious about the city’s past. This production highlights the enduring appeal of classic melodrama formats in Brazilian television, and Globo’s continued investment in high-profile series.
