Central Connecticut State quarterback Brady Olson was named the NEC Football Offensive Player of the Week on Monday and Jack Hennessey was named the league’s Special Team Player of the Week. Olson was joined as an NEC Prime Performer by Elijah Howard and Gavin Taylor.

Olson, who was also an FCS National Player of the Week Honorable Mention, had a career-day in the Blue Devils overtime win over SHU, contributing five touchdowns. He was 28-40 passing, with 323 yards and four touchdown strikes. He also ran for a career-high 58 yards and had a rushing touchdown. The completions, passing yardage, passing touchdowns and rushing total are all career-best numbers for Olson.

Hennessey contributed 10 points in the victory on Saturday. He was 4-4 on PAT attempts, and converted two first half field goals, 22 and 26 yards, to aid the Blue Devils in the win. It is Hennessey’s second Special Teams Player of the Week award.

Howard accumulated 171 all-purpose yards in the win, including a 25-yard touchdown catch on the first play of overtime to put CCSU in front for good. He also ran for 102 yards on Saturday.

Taylor helped anchor the Blue Devils defense, which held on 1st and goal in overtime, with seven tackles. He recorded 2.5 TFL and had 1.5 sacks on the day.

CCSU, 3-3 on the year, returns to NEC play this week, travelling to Robert Morris for a 2:00 pm game. The Blue Devils are 1-0 in league play, while the game will be the Colonials conference opener.
