Yankton Gazelles Tennis Team Finishes Third at Eastern South Dakota Conference Meet

The Yankton Gazelles tennis team secured third place at the Eastern South Dakota Conference (ESD) competition held yesterday at Yankton High School, highlighted by a historic 54th consecutive doubles victory from sisters Nora and Sabrina Krajewski.

Nora and Sabrina Krajewski clinched their third straight ESD flight one doubles title, a feat lauded by head coach Ryan Hage. “There’s not a team in the state that wouldn’t love to be in the situation we are in with Nora and Sabrina,” Hage said. “Their shoes won’t be filled, and I’m so happy that they got the opportunity to go out on top at their home court.” Nora has now earned four ESD titles overall, including three in flight one, while Sabrina secured her second ESD title in flight two. This victory is particularly significant as the sisters remain undefeated heading into the state tournament.

Beyond the Krajewski sisters’ success, Karalyn Koerner and Meagan Scott finished third in flight two doubles, with Koerner placing fourth in flight three singles and Scott finishing fifth in flight four singles. The team’s overall performance resulted in a score of 241 points, placing them behind Harrisburg (312 points) and Mitchell (275 points), and ahead of Aberdeen Central (207.5 points). Success in the ESD often provides a strong momentum boost for teams competing at the state level, as the conference is known for its competitive field. The Gazelles will now set their sights on the Class AA state competition in Sioux Falls on October 9 and 10. “We’re really excited for state,” Nora Krajewski said. “We have been working extremely hard and still undefeated. I don’t want to jinx anything, but we’re feeling really good heading into the state tournament.” For more details on the South Dakota High School Activities Association, visit their official website.
