Bulls Forward Patrick Williams Focused on Health, Consistency Ahead of 2024-25 Season

Chicago Bulls forward Patrick Williams says he’s entering the upcoming season with a renewed sense of trust in his body and a focus on consistent play, after years of battling injuries that have impacted his career.

Williams, a former top-five draft pick, addressed his health and preparation following a preseason game on Sunday, acknowledging a history of setbacks but emphasizing his positive outlook. “We’re getting there,” Williams stated. “Half of it’s just about being confident in my body. I kind of focus on that, just having full trust in my body. I had a good summer where I was able to test my body in ways that I wasn’t before.” He reportedly slimmed down during the offseason, attributing it to increased training capacity.

Bulls coach Billy Donovan echoed Williams’ sentiments, noting the forward’s dedication to improvement. “I think even for himself, (Williams) was somewhat disappointed with the way (last) season went individually,” Donovan said earlier in the preseason. “I think he’s taking that on himself.” Williams averaged nine points, 3.8 rebounds, and two assists last season, but has shown encouraging signs in the preseason, averaging 9.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 3.5 assists through four games. The Bulls are hoping Williams can develop into a key contributor alongside rising prospect Matas Buzelis.

The Bulls’ wing rotation is crowded, with competition from players like Kevin Huerter, Julian Phillips, and Isaac Okoro for playing time. Williams’ ability to stay healthy and consistently contribute will be crucial for the team’s success, as they aim to build on last season’s performance and contend in the Eastern Conference. Donovan stated the team will continue to evaluate Williams’ progress throughout the preseason and regular season, focusing on his defensive consistency and shooting efficiency.
