Flyers Dominate Kraken 5-2, Handing Seattle First Regulation Loss

The Philadelphia Flyers secured their most decisive victory of the season yesterday, defeating the Seattle Kraken 5-2 at Xfinity Mobile Arena.

Owen Tippett led the Flyers’ offensive charge with two goals, continuing a strong start to the season, while Tyson Foerster and Noah Cates capitalized on power play opportunities. Travis Konecny also scored his first goal of the season, and Cam York tallied three assists, with Sean Couturier adding two. “I thought we just played with confidence,” York said, “from the top to the bottom.” This win moves the Flyers to 3-2-1 on the season, demonstrating early potential in the NHL standings.

The Kraken, missing key players Jared McCann and Brandon Montour, struggled to contain the Flyers’ attack. Seattle netminder Joey Daccord was pulled during the second intermission after conceding five goals on 21 shots. Flyers’ goaltender Dan Vladar was instrumental in the win, making 21 saves on 23 shots. “Vladdy I thought played great and kind of gave the bench confidence even when they got some odd-man rushes,” York added. The Flyers’ power play also saw improvement, converting on 2 of 4 opportunities, a welcome change after starting the season 1 for 15.

Flyers head coach Rick Tocchet praised Tippett’s performance, even comparing his speed and power to that of Dallas Stars winger Mikko Rantanen. “He looks like a guy that’s dialed in,” Tocchet said. The team also saw the debut of youngsters Jett Luchanko and Nikita Grebenkin, with Grebenkin demonstrating a willingness to defend teammates, earning a fighting major.

The Flyers will continue their road trip on Thursday with a game against the Ottawa Senators, while the teams will meet again on December 28 at Climate Pledge Arena.
