Los Angeles County Officially Adopts 2025 OurCounty Sustainability Plan
Los Angeles County supervisors yesterday approved the comprehensive 2025 OurCounty sustainability plan, outlining ambitious goals for environmental protection, economic equity, and community well-being across the region.
The plan, adopted on 2025-11-12, establishes targets for reducing greenhouse gas emissions, increasing renewable energy adoption, improving air and water quality, and expanding access to affordable housing and transportation. It focuses on eight key areas: climate action, ecosystem health, sustainable communities, a resilient economy, inclusive opportunity, good governance, public health, and waste management. The initiative impacts over 10 million residents and aims to create a more sustainable and equitable future for all.
According to county documents, the plan builds upon existing sustainability efforts and incorporates feedback from community stakeholders gathered through extensive public engagement processes. A core component involves transitioning to 100% renewable energy sources by 2045, a goal that will require significant investment in infrastructure and policy changes. Further details on the county’s environmental initiatives can be found on the Los Angeles County Sustainability website.
“This plan represents a significant commitment to building a more sustainable and resilient Los Angeles County for generations to come,” stated county officials. The implementation of OurCounty will be overseen by a newly formed Sustainability Office, and progress will be tracked and reported publicly on an annual basis. This plan aligns with broader state and national efforts to combat climate change, as outlined by the Environmental Protection Agency.
County leaders indicated they will now focus on securing funding and partnerships to implement the plan’s various initiatives over the coming years.
