Perth Lynx Defeat Adelaide Lightning 75-72 in WNBL Match

The Perth Lynx overcame the Adelaide Lightning 75-72 yesterday, despite the Lightning playing their first game following a new partnership with the South Australian government.

The match, held at the South Australia State Basketball Centre before a sell-out crowd on October 19, 2025, saw the Lynx lead for the majority of the game, though Adelaide staged a late comeback to briefly take the lead with two minutes remaining. WNBA import Brianna Turner, who arrived in Perth just a week prior, proved crucial for the Lynx with 15 points, 10 rebounds, and six assists, alongside Alex Ciabattoni’s 23 points. This victory is an important early win for Perth as they navigate a competitive WNBL season.

“Bri landed a week ago, so trying to get her into everything has been fun. Luckily she picks up so well,” said Perth coach Ryan Petrik. “She fits like she was someone we’ve chased for years and have never quite been able to get.” Adelaide was led by WNBA imports Steph Talbot (11 points, 10 rebounds) and Sania Feagin (16 points, nine rebounds), and a strong shooting performance from Tayla Brazel, who scored four triples in the second quarter. The WNBL is experiencing increased investment and attention as it aims to grow its fanbase, as reported by the official WNBL website.

Despite the loss, Adelaide coach Kerryn Mitchell highlighted the team’s resilience. “We’ve only got two players left from last year. Most of the girls haven’t played together before, and we’re a young group, but we’ve gelled pretty well,” Mitchell said. “The fight that we showed to come back was awesome. So there’s so much to build on.” The Lynx were missing key players Steph Gorman and Ally Wilson due to injury, adding to the challenge of the game. Officials stated both teams demonstrated strong potential, and the league anticipates continued competitive matchups throughout the season.
