Popular Florence Sandwich Chain All’Antico Vinaio Draws Long Lines in Boston

A new location of the Florence-based sandwich shop All’Antico Vinaio is experiencing significant wait times in Boston’s Back Bay neighborhood, drawing curious customers and prompting discussion about value and local business support.

The restaurant, located on Boylston Street, has consistently seen lines stretching down the block since opening earlier this month, with some customers reporting 45-minute waits during peak lunch hours. The shop specializes in Tuscan Schiacciata, a type of flatbread sandwich filled with imported Italian meats and cheeses. Prices range from $13 to $19 per sandwich.

Despite the cost and wait, many customers believe the sandwiches are worth the time and money. Clifton Johnson, a Boston University medical student, stated, “Best sandwich ever. It’s worth it,” after his fifth visit, specifically seeking out the pistachio-filled La Paradiso. Others, like Aly Quinn, were initially drawn to the shop simply by the length of the line, wanting to discover what the buzz was about. The popularity of All’Antico Vinaio reflects a growing trend of internationally-renowned food establishments expanding into the U.S. market.

While some patrons are willing to pay a premium for the imported ingredients and unique flavors, others suggest exploring local alternatives. Boston boasts a vibrant sandwich scene, including options like Parish Cafe and The Salty Pig, offering diverse choices and supporting local businesses. As All’Antico Vinaio settles into the Boston food landscape, it remains to be seen whether the long lines will persist or if the novelty will wear off.
