American Airlines Announces New Seasonal Routes for Summer 2026
American Airlines unveiled plans today for expanded seasonal service in the summer of 2026, adding direct flights from New York and Dallas to popular destinations including Jackson Hole, Wyoming, and Gunnison, Colorado, catering to increased demand for convenient access to outdoor recreation areas.
Beginning June 18, 2026, American will launch daily seasonal service between New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) and Jackson Hole Airport (JAC), operating through October 4, 2026, utilizing the Airbus A319. Simultaneously, the airline will introduce seasonal flights from Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) to Gunnison-Crested Butte Regional Airport (GUC) in Colorado, also using the Airbus A319, running from June 18 through September 8, 2026. These additions provide travelers with easier access to Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks, as well as the hiking, mountain biking, and fishing opportunities around Gunnison. The airline’s move reflects a broader trend in the travel industry towards experiential tourism and outdoor adventures.
Beyond these mountain destinations, American Airlines is also bolstering its network from New York’s LaGuardia Airport (LGA). Starting February 13, 2026, American Eagle will begin weekend flights to Jacksonville International Airport (JAX) in Florida and Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport (SAV) in Georgia. Additionally, seasonal service to Myrtle Beach International Airport (MYR) in South Carolina will operate from March 13 to September 8, 2026, using the Embraer E175, offering a range of seating options. You can find more information about airport destinations at the Airports Council International website.
These expanded routes are part of American Airlines’ strategy to capitalize on the growing leisure travel market, offering more direct flight options to popular vacation spots. The airline has been steadily increasing its domestic network to meet consumer demand, as reported by Statista. Officials stated the airline will continue to evaluate opportunities to enhance connectivity and provide travelers with more convenient options.
