Andalusian cinemas will soon be eligible for nearly $1.5 million in funding aimed at supporting both cultural and educational programming, according to a recent proclamation from the regional government. The non-competitive grants, totaling over €1.47 million, are intended to bolster the activity of film venues throughout the Andalusia region and recognize the vital role cinemas play in the local cultural landscape. Applications opened December 19, 2025, with a deadline of January 16, 2026, and full details of the program-including eligibility requirements and necessary documentation-are available through the Junta de Andalucía.
Andalusian cinemas are eligible for nearly $1.5 million in funding to support cultural and educational programming, according to a recent announcement from the regional government. The grants aim to bolster the activity of film venues across the Andalusia region of Spain.
The Agencia Andaluza de Instituciones Culturales (Andalusian Agency for Cultural Institutions) is offering the subsidies, totaling €1,473,333.34 (approximately $1,497,000 USD as of December 20, 2025), for the 2025 fiscal year. Funding will be allocated on a non-competitive basis, meaning applications will be reviewed based on meeting established criteria rather than competing against each other. The availability of funds is subject to the regional budget.
The program, formally outlined in Resolution 11/12/2025 published in the Official Gazette of Andalusia (BOJA) on December 18, 2025, is intended to promote the cultural role of cinemas in the region. A full copy of the resolution is available as a PDF document.
Eligible applicants include privately-owned cinemas and cinema complexes operating in Andalusia, as defined by Spanish law. Specifically, a “cinema” is defined as a venue open to the public for film screenings, while a “cinema complex” has two or more screens under the same ownership and branding.
Cinemas disqualified from receiving funding include those classified as “X” and those with tax residency in countries deemed non-cooperative jurisdictions, according to Order HFP/115/2023. Applicants must also maintain a registered establishment or branch in Andalusia and be registered with the Instituto de la Cinematografía y de las Artes Audiovisuales (ICAA) – the Spanish Institute of Cinematography and Audiovisual Arts – prior to the annual call for proposals. They must also be current on their local business taxes.
To qualify, cinemas must have screened at least four films supported by the Regional Ministry of Culture during the year the funding is offered. They must also adhere to screen quota requirements outlined in Spanish cinema law.
Applications must be submitted electronically through the Junta de Andalucía’s electronic registry by January 16, 2026. The application period began December 19, 2025, and can be accessed via the Consejería de Cultura y Deporte’s (Regional Ministry of Culture and Sport) website at https://ws050.juntadeandalucia.es/vea/accesoDirecto/AAIICC.
Required documentation includes a completed application form (downloadable PDF), a budget template (Excel file), and a project proposal (Word document).
Further details regarding the program’s regulations can be found in the Order of October 8, 2025, also published in the BOJA on October 22, 2025. A simplified explanation of the funding distribution is available as a PDF document.
A list of projects previously funded by the Regional Ministry of Culture since 2012 is available to assist applicants in meeting the requirement of screening supported films (PDF document).
