A shooting and stabbing in Brussels’ Anderlecht neighborhood on Wednesday night left one person injured, according to local police. The incident, which unfolded on the Bergensesteenweg, began as a dispute between four individuals that quickly escalated into violence.
Police say two of the men involved in the initial altercation opened fire on the others. Those who were shot then reportedly attacked a bystander with a knife, injuring the individual who was not involved in the original dispute. The injured bystander was transported to a hospital but their injuries were not life-threatening.
“Our teams were called out around 11 p.m. Yesterday evening for a shooting incident. This appears to have been the result of a dispute between four people,” a police statement said. “According to initial reports, two people shot at two others.”
Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident. Videos of the shooting have circulated on social media, showing a person in a light gray hooded sweatshirt firing shots. The incident occurred at the intersection of Bergensesteenweg and Aristide Briandlaan.
