Skytedramaet i Arendal – Fire fremstilt for varetektsfengsling

A shooting in Arendal, Norway, on Friday has led to the arrest and detention of four individuals, as authorities investigate the incident. The case highlights the seriousness of gun violence even in countries with strict firearm regulations.

Police were alerted to the shooting at a private residence in Arendal around noon on February 28, 2026. A man was found with significant injuries and transported to Arendal Hospital. Although initially described as serious, police confirmed the man’s injuries were not life-threatening.

On Sunday, March 1, 2026, three men and one woman were brought before a court for a detention hearing. All four are now being held in full isolation for one week, with a four-week detention order pending further investigation, NRK reports.

The court has sealed the details of the detention hearing to protect the ongoing investigation. Police initially investigated one suspect for attempted murder, but have since changed the status of all four to being suspected of complicity in attempted murder.

“The client does not admit guilt,” said Sidra Bhatti, the defense attorney for the man initially suspected of attempted murder, in a brief statement.

Authorities have been conducting door-to-door inquiries and have obtained surveillance footage from a nearby hotel as part of their investigation, according to fvn.no. Police believe the shooting occurred at the home of one of the suspects.

A woman in her 20s, who was initially a witness, is now also considered a suspect in the case, accused of complicity in attempted murder, Aftenposten reported.

Christian Flemmen Johansen, the victim’s legal counsel, confirmed that his client sustained gunshot wounds and is receiving medical care. He added that the victim is “doing well under the circumstances.”

Police have stated that the victim and all four suspects are known to each other. The investigation is ongoing.
