Four people are in custody following a shooting in Arendal, Norway, on Friday that left one man with serious injuries. The incident underscores the increasing concerns about violent crime in the typically peaceful Scandinavian nation.
Police responded to a report of a shooting at a private residence in Arendal around noon on Friday, according to reports. The victim was transported to Arendal Hospital with significant wounds.
On Sunday, three men and one woman were brought before a court in Agder and ordered to be held in custody for four weeks, with strict restrictions on contact with the outside world. All four are now considered suspects in the case.
In a ruling from Agder District Court, all four suspects will be held in complete isolation for the next week.
Authorities initially requested two weeks of isolation, but the court approved only one. Police had sought a media blackout and isolation for the suspects, arguing that releasing details could compromise the ongoing investigation.

Sent to Hospital
The victim was taken to Arendal Hospital with extensive injuries after being shot.
Police attorney Vanja Bruvoll confirmed the seriousness of the situation.
“This is a serious act of violence, but the injuries are not considered life-threatening,” she said.
The victim’s legal counsel, Christian Flemmen Johansen, confirmed to NRK that the man sustained gunshot wounds.

Isolation Ordered
On Sunday morning, four individuals were brought before the Agder District Court for a custody hearing and were ordered to be held for four weeks, with restrictions on visitors and communication.
Police also requested a media ban and isolation for two of those weeks, which the court granted for one week.
All four are now facing charges related to complicity in attempted murder.
One of the suspects was initially charged with attempted murder, but police have since revised the charges.
Sidra Bhatti, the defense attorney for that suspect, offered a brief statement to NRK.
– My client denies any criminal wrongdoing, she said.

Fears of Leaks
Police have been working diligently at the scene in Arendal throughout the weekend.
They have been conducting door-to-door inquiries in the area and interviewing witnesses.
“We have been working to secure evidence and interview witnesses,” Anja Bruvoll told NRK.
In court on Sunday, she was granted a request for closed doors during the custody hearings, which began at 11 a.m.

The reason for the closed doors, and the request for strict restrictions during custody, is that police fear important information will leak prematurely, she emphasized.
“There is still much investigation to be done and many interviews to be conducted, and we do not want too much to come out in advance,” Bruvoll said in court.
She added that police are now working to secure electronic evidence.
“We do not want the suspects to be able to talk to each other and coordinate their statements. That is why isolation and a media ban are important.”

A woman in her 20s was also charged with the same offense on Saturday.
All have been questioned by police over the weekend.
