Israeli helicopters attempted a landing operation in eastern Lebanon overnight, sparking clashes with armed groups and prompting retaliatory airstrikes, according to reports emerging Saturday, March 7, 2026. The incident, centered around the towns of Sarain and Nabi Sheet in the Bekaa Valley, marks a significant escalation of tensions in the region.

Initial reports indicate that the Israeli military attempted to deploy forces near the area between Sarain and Nabi Sheet before being detected, leading to a firefight near the Al-Shukr cemetery. Following the initial clashes, Israeli warplanes launched raids and fired flares around Sarain and throughout the northern Bekaa Valley, with heavy helicopter traffic reported over the town of Brital.

According to circulating information, the attempted landing may be linked to a previous kidnapping of a member of the Al-Shukr family, potentially connected to the decades-old case of Israeli pilot Ron Arad, who went missing in Lebanon in 1986. Some reports suggest the Israelis may have been attempting to locate information regarding Arad’s remains.

Witnesses reported heavy gunfire targeting the helicopters as they attempted to extract the deployed forces. The main road in Nabi Sheet was reportedly blocked during the operation. Unconfirmed reports too claim that Israeli forces were besieged inside a house in Nabi Sheet, with some accounts alleging casualties on both sides.

A video circulating online, which has not been independently verified, purportedly shows an Israeli helicopter being downed near Brital. Simultaneously, gunfire was heard in the southern suburbs of Beirut following news of the failed landing attempt.

The Lebanese Ministry of Public Health announced that the Israeli strikes on Nabi Sheet resulted in the deaths of three civilians and injuries to sixteen others. The escalating violence underscores the ongoing instability in the region and raises concerns about further conflict.
