Argentina’s automotive sector continues to show signs of recovery despite a slight dip in November sales, according to new data released by Acara. New vehicle registrations fell 33.2% from October, though year-to-date figures remain remarkably strong with a nearly 50% increase over the same period last year. The industry’s performance is being closely watched as a barometer of the nation’s broader economic health, with manufacturers and policymakers alike hoping the positive trend will continue into 2026.

Argentine auto sales declined in November, falling 33.2% from October, according to data released by the Association of Automotive Concessionaires of the Argentine Republic (Acara). A total of 34,905 new vehicles were sold last month, a decrease of 3.6% compared to November 2024. Despite the monthly dip, year-to-date sales remain strong, signaling a recovery in the sector.

Through November, a total of 587,666 vehicles have been sold in Argentina, representing a substantial 49.7% increase compared to the same period in 2024, Acara reported. The automotive industry is a key indicator of economic health in Argentina, and the strong year-to-date figures suggest positive momentum.

“The nearly 35,000 units registered in November is a good number,” said Sebastián Beato, president of Acara. “It’s important to remember we had two fewer business days last month, and November, along with December, are historically the slowest months of the year.”

Beato added, “Activity at our dealerships remains robust, a trend that doesn’t appear to be slowing down in the coming months. We hope to see progress on the labor and tax issues being discussed, and continued access to credit at increasingly favorable rates – which is key to boosting our sector – and for the momentum to continue into 2026 as it has throughout this year.”

The November sales rankings revealed some shifts in consumer preference. The Toyota Hilux continued its dominance as the best-selling vehicle, maintaining its lead in the pickup truck segment and overall market share. The Peugeot 208 secured the second position, performing well throughout the year.

A notable newcomer to the top three was the Volkswagen Tera, a recently launched SUV that quickly gained traction with buyers. The vehicle’s strong performance indicates Volkswagen’s successful entry into a competitive segment.

Sales of the Toyota Yaris, however, experienced a decline, impacted by production challenges at the company’s Porto Felíz plant in Brazil. The Yaris had previously held the top spot for several months, demonstrating its popularity with Argentine consumers. Toyota plans to resume Yaris production in 2026.
