Ariana Grande Briefly Approached by Fan at ‘Wicked’ Premiere in Singapore

Ariana Grande was briefly approached by a fan who breached security at the Singapore premiere of “Wicked: For Good” yesterday, November 13, 2024, but was quickly comforted by co-star Cynthia Erivo.

The incident occurred as Grande was walking the yellow brick carpet alongside Erivo, Michelle Yeoh, Jeff Goldblum, and director Jon M. Chu. A man reportedly jumped over a barricade, put his arm around Grande, and jumped up and down before Erivo intervened to push him away. Videos circulating online show Erivo and Yeoh then comforting Grande as security escorted the man away, with fans shouting to ask if she was alright.

The individual has been identified as Johnson Wen, who uses the Instagram handle “Pyjama Man.” Wen posted a video of the incident to his social media account, captioning it, “Dear Ariana Grande Thank You for letting me Jump on the Yellow Carpet with You.” He has a history of disrupting events, including concerts by Katy Perry and The Weeknd, and attempted to access the Paris Olympics earlier this year, according to reports. This incident highlights the increasing security challenges faced by high-profile events.

The “Wicked: For Good” cast has been traveling the globe for premieres, including stops in São Paulo, Paris, and London, before the North American premiere in New York City. Grande previously made headlines when she had to cancel a trip to Brazil due to an aircraft safety issue. The film is scheduled for wide release on November 27, 2024. Universal Pictures has not yet released a statement regarding the incident, but local authorities are reviewing security protocols for future events.
