Latvian musician Arvis Mazelis has established a unique birthday tradition: celebrating in London. The annual gathering began in 2023, while Mazelis was studying music production in the UK capital.

Mazelis’s sister, Liva, explained that the tradition took root when family and friends—including her other sister, Elizabetes Gulbe, a harp student at the Royal Academy of Music in London—converged in the city for his birthday. “Relatives and friends came to visit me and Elizabetes, and we all ended up meeting there and starting a birthday celebration tradition,” Mazelis said. “We’ll see how long this tradition lasts—that we travel to London for my birthday.”

The musician’s choice of London for his birthday festivities adds an interesting dimension to his public profile, showcasing a blend of his artistic pursuits and personal connections. It remains to be seen if London will continue to be the focal point for his future birthday celebrations, but the tradition has clearly taken hold within his family and friend circle.
