Netflix is joining the growing trend of adapting video games for television, following the success of series like “Fallout” and “The Last of Us” on competing platforms. The streaming giant has set its sights on the popular “Assassin’s Creed” franchise, which, aside from a 2016 film starring Michael Fassbender, hasn’t been adapted into a live-action project.

Casting for the series has been underway this winter, and five actors have now been confirmed for roles, with the latest announcement coming January 26, 2026, via Deadline. The cast for “Assassin’s Creed” includes:

  • Toby Wallace, known for his work in “The Bikeriders” and “Eden,” will take on one of the lead roles.
  • Lola Petticrew, who has appeared in “Say Nothing” and “Dating Amber,” has been cast in a second lead role.
  • Zachary Hart, with previous Netflix experience on “Bodies” and “The Witcher: Blood Origin,” will play a central character.
  • Laura Marcus, recently seen in both “Andor” and “Death By Lightning,” is also confirmed to join the cast.
  • Tanzyn Crawford, who will soon appear as Tanselle in “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms,” was announced January 26th as the fifth member of the “Assassin’s Creed” ensemble.

Details regarding the characters these actors will portray remain under wraps. However, sources indicate the series will feature original characters, meaning fans shouldn’t expect to see familiar faces like Ezio, Desmond, or Kassandra.

Few details about the series have been released, but rumors suggest “Assassin’s Creed” will primarily take place in ancient Rome. Like the games, the show is also expected to incorporate a modern-day framing narrative, centering on the core “Assassin’s Creed” premise of using the Animus machine to relive the memories of past warriors in search of artifacts from a mysterious ancient civilization.

Adding to the excitement, Swedish director Johan Renck, known for his work on “Chernobyl,” will direct episodes of the series. This casting choice is sure to elevate the project even further.

“Assassin’s Creed” currently lacks a premiere date, but with filming slated to begin this year, a 2027 release seems likely. The series is the latest example of the growing trend of adapting popular video game franchises for television, offering fans a new way to experience beloved worlds and characters.
