Münih(Rûdaw) – Kurdish Regional Government (KRG) President Nechirvan Barzani met with Mazlum Abdi, the General Commander of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), and Ilham Ahmed, the co-chair of the Autonomous Administration’s External Relations Committee.
The meeting took place on February 15, 2026, on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference. The discussions come as regional diplomatic efforts continue to address ongoing instability in Syria and beyond.
According to a statement released by the KRG Presidency, the meeting focused on recent political and security developments in Syria and the region, as well as the situation of Kurds and other communities within Syria.
Nechirvan Barzani “emphasized the importance of continuing dialogue and mutual understanding for a political solution to the problems in Syria,” the statement read.
Barzani stated that any resolution should ensure the protection of the rights of Kurds and all components within a unified Syrian framework, as enshrined in the country’s future constitution.
The statement likewise noted that Mazlum Abdi expressed his gratitude to President Masoud Barzani and the KRG Presidency “for their continued efforts and effective role in achieving calm and reaching a ceasefire agreement between Damascus and the SDF.”
