Beatles Biopic Adds Saoirse Ronan, Anna Sawai, and More to Cast
The upcoming four-part biopic series about The Beatles has announced the actors who will portray key women in the lives of the iconic band members.
Mia McKenna-Bruce (Tracy Beaker Returns) will play Maureen Starkey, Ringo Starr’s wife, while Saoirse Ronan (Lady Bird) will portray Linda McCartney. Joining them is Anna Sawai (Shōgun) as Yoko Ono, John Lennon’s wife and musical partner, and Aimee Lou Wood (Sex Education) as Pattie Boyd, who was married to both George Harrison and Eric Clapton. This casting news further builds anticipation for a project aiming to comprehensively document the band’s history.
Director Sam Mendes stated, “Maureen, Linda, Yoko and Pattie are four fascinating and unique figures in their own right, and I’m thrilled that we’ve managed to persuade four of the most talented women working in film today to join this amazing adventure.” The film will also star Harris Dickinson as John Lennon, Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr, Paul Mescal as Paul McCartney, and Joseph Quinn as George Harrison. Further casting announcements for roles including Cynthia Lennon, Brian Epstein, and George Martin are expected soon, according to reports from Rolling Stone.
Each of the four films will focus on the Beatles’ story through the perspective of a different band member, and all four are slated for simultaneous release in April 2028. Mendes has described the project as the “first binge-able theatrical experience,” noting the story was “too huge to fit into a single movie,” a sentiment echoed by many fans eager for a detailed look into the band’s legacy – a legacy that continues to influence music today.
Officials have indicated that casting for remaining key roles will be announced in the coming months.
