Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette is signaling a willingness to broaden his positional versatility as he prepares to navigate free agency this offseason.Coming off a 2025 postseason run where he made an emergency start at second base due to a knee injury, Bichette has reportedly informed multiple teams he’s open to playing the position, potentially expanding his market beyond clubs seeking a shortstop [[1]]. This strategic shift comes as several teams, including the Red Sox and Dodgers, evaluate their options for the infield ahead of the 2026 season.

Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette has reportedly informed teams he is open to playing second base, a move that could significantly broaden his options as he approaches free agency.

Bichette made his first appearance at second base during the 2025 World Series while battling a knee injury that sidelined him for the first two rounds of the postseason. His willingness to consider a position change could make him a more attractive target for clubs not in need of a shortstop.

The Atlanta Braves had been frequently linked to Bichette this offseason, but filled their shortstop vacancy on Monday by signing Ha-Seong Kim to a one-year, $20 million contract.

The Boston Red Sox, who reportedly held a Zoom meeting with Bichette, are believed to be among the teams considering him at second base. Boston already has Trevor Story at shortstop and could potentially shift Mexican prospect Marcelo Mayer to third base, filling the spot left by the departure of Alex Bregman.

This flexibility from Bichette could also appeal to the Blue Jays themselves, who have three-time Gold Glove winner Andrés Giménez available to play shortstop. A move would allow Toronto to potentially keep both talented infielders in the lineup.

Other teams with established shortstops who might explore Bichette at second include the Los Angeles Dodgers (Mookie Betts), New York Mets (Francisco Lindor), and San Francisco Giants (Willy Adames).

The New York Yankees (Anthony Volpe) and Chicago Cubs (Dansby Swanson) could also become potential suitors if trade rumors surrounding Jazz Chisholm Jr. of the Yankees and Nico Hoerner of the Cubs materialize.

The second base market is relatively active with players like Ketel Marte, Brendan Donovan, Brandon Lowe, and Jeff McNeil reportedly available. However, options are more limited at second base in free agency, potentially creating an opportunity for Bichette to find a new home.
