The guitarist and founding member of the legendary band Grateful Dead has died at the age of 78, according to reports from TMZ.
Weir passed away from a previously undisclosed lung condition, following a recent cancer diagnosis. The news was confirmed in a statement posted to his official Instagram account.
The musician received his cancer diagnosis over the summer, shortly before he was scheduled to perform in Golden Gate Park in San Francisco. The band played three concerts there to celebrate Grateful Dead’s 60th anniversary.
