The transfer of Edwin Cetré to Boca Juniors has hit a snag due to discrepancies in medical criteria during initial examinations. A similar situation occurred weeks ago when a move to Athletico Paranaense of Brazil was also in the works, but he did not pass the medical review. Currently, the transfer is on hold, but not completely off the table.

Boca Juniors requested a supplementary medical report on the player this Tuesday, in addition to the standard medical examination conducted before the arrival of each player. The club’s medical staff identified anomalies in some of the results and informed the board.

On February 1st, the Colombian forward had a deal in place to join Athletico Paranaense, but the transfer fell through at the last minute due to alleged “cardiac issues”.

Even as Estudiantes indicated the transfer didn’t fall apart due to “last-minute disagreements on terms between the institutions,” Boca Juniors decided to verify the report from Brazil by reviewing the examination results.

The transfer is not yet off and will depend on whether Boca Juniors is willing to take the risk knowing the player’s health concerns, or if they determine those concerns won’t hinder his performance at a high level.

Boca and Estudiantes had already agreed to a deal for 50% of Cetré’s rights on Sunday, with the club set to acquire the remaining half from Independiente de Medellín in the coming hours.

This morning, Colombian clubs had included a loan player from Boca in the negotiation, which would free up an extraordinary roster spot to bolster their squad until March 10.

Whether or not the Cetré deal goes through, Boca intends to add two players – an attacking midfielder and a center forward – to their roster.
